A Spontaneous Relationship. Over the years I have neglected an important stakeholder in the selection and installation process, The Tile Contractor. I believe the biggest roadblock was not knowing where to start. My goal for 2022 was to “know” the Tile Contractor. We started to advertise in the Tile Letter which is a monologue not a dialogue definitely not the path to a relationship.
Then fate entered, or better said a vacuum of knowledge regarding Encaustic / Cement Tile (a full discussion at a later date) prompted James of Art Craft current Chairman of NTCA Technical Committee to reach out and invited me to the NTCA Technical Committee.
Not Just Lip Service. At the meeting as a non-member, I was welcomed not just with smiles but as a contributor to the discussion. The tenor of the entire meeting was “how can we improve”. I did not see people behind castle walls defending a method just because. It was very cool to see a truly collaborative process to improve the industry.
As a Result. The next day I joined the NTCA. Arto is also a new member of the Subcommittee on Handmade Tile and Encaustic / Cement Tile
